About Us

The inspiration for FUNKHOUND came about at the beginning of March 2015 when one of the owners found the newest K9 love of her life in a little Griffon/Schnauzer puppy. After owning Boxers for many years and only being able to find very plain, practical accessories for them, she set out to find some "cool stuff" for little Sparky. Again she was pretty disappointed with what she found in the retail stores, so the next step was to search Google images for cool ideas for a bed. When she saw a homemade Sugar Skull Bean Bag Bed for a dog in the USA, she was sold. She had to have "cool stuff" like THAT!!

 

The Next Step

Although she has some sewing experience, it was decided that this had to look sharp and professionally made. She went to a very good friend who has been a professional seamstress for over 30 years and when the results were seen bay all in sundry, people wanted the same thing for their pets. FUNKHOUND was BORN.

Her good friend was recruited into the team and our owner is now an excellent seamstress in her own right. FUNKHOUND only use industrial grade sewing machine and accessories.

 

The Launch

After 3 months of careful planning and trying all sorts of different design ideas, it was decided that FUNKHOUND had the goods to launch on Facebook. It was meant to be a soft launch with a few likes and hopefully a bit of momentum. New Zealand reacted instantly to our product and the page had 2000 likes in just over 2 weeks.

 

The Website

Our original business plan included the soft launch and sharing product info, as well as facilitating orders through Facebook Private Message. What we found very quickly was that this isn't an effective and sustainable way of providing information or managing the orders process.

So the result? 3 months ahead of the business plan is this online shopping experience you are browsing at the moment. This "About Us" was written after 3 weeks of trading and it's been a juggernaut that just keeps gathering momentum. It's thanks to the people reading this, THE

The Future

Who knows? If this is 3 weeks, then it would be fair to say that the 3 month and the one year mark could be very interesting milestones for FUNKHOUND and impossible to predict. Maybe this page should serve as a blog to update progress.

Our overarching vision is to provide K9s with hip, funky and streetwise accessories, while staying true to our principle of sourcing our raw product from NZ Suppliers and operating our business in an environmentally friendly way whenever and wherever possible.
